Furukawa Electric will sell all of its UACJ shares. The sale is also reportedly intended to end its capital relationship with UACJ as one of the company's founding companies. Total sale proceeds are expected to be approximately ¥28.6 billion, with a gain on sale of approximately ¥22.0 billion.
Furukawa Electric announced on the 24th that it would sell its UACJ shares as of the 25th. The sale covers a total of 12,746,000 shares, which had accounted for approximately 7% of UACJ's total shares outstanding.
Total sale proceeds are expected to be approximately ¥28.6 billion, with a gain on sale of approximately ¥22.0 billion. The purpose of the sale is to reduce strategic shareholdings and secure funds for growth.
The sale was brought forward from the original plan of October or later, taking market conditions and share-price trends into account. Furukawa Electric expects to record a gain on sale of investment securities in the six months ending September 2026, and has left its full-year outlook unchanged.
UACJ was established through the merger of Furukawa Sky, formerly a subsidiary of Furukawa Electric, and Sumitomo Light Metal Industries. There have been disputes over management policy in the past, and Furukawa Electric also voiced objections in 2018.
Furukawa Electric's ownership ratio in UACJ has now declined, while Effissimo Capital Management, which originated from the former Murakami fund, has continued to increase its holding. Its ownership ratio was reported to be 24.28% as of February 2026.
