Kumagai Gumi and Sumitomo Forestry have begun construction of an environmentally friendly hotel incorporating multiple timber construction technologies. The hotel is in Ginza, Tokyo, and is expected to open in October 2029. It will have 12 floors above ground and 1 basement floor, with an expected 130 guest rooms. The project will use hybrid timber construction combining timber and steel.
The plan calls for the office building owned by Nippon Steel Kowa Real Estate to be rebuilt and redeveloped as a long-stay hotel. The project aims to ensure durability and economic efficiency, while using more than 350 cubic metres of timber. Timber from Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture, will be used.
