Keidanren Chair Yoshinobu Tsutsui (筒井義信) said he could not support raising corporate taxes to fund a cut in the consumption tax on food products, and called on the government to support an investment-led economic policy.
Keidanren Chair Yoshinobu Tsutsui (筒井義信) said he could not support raising corporate taxes. In light of the current shift in direction toward an investment-led economy, following a change in mindset, he said the government should support this policy direction.
Chair Tsutsui pointed out that Japan's corporate tax rate is high compared with those of other major countries, suggesting that this posed a challenge from the perspective of international competitiveness.
At the same time, given that pressure on spending, including social security costs, is likely to intensify, he said the business community should engage seriously in discussions on matters where it should cooperate.
On this issue, Yamaguchi (山口), representative secretary-general of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives, said he was neither opposed nor in favor, while Kobayashi (小林), chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said he opposed it.
