International organizations, including the IMF, have expressed optimism about China’s economic growth outlook. Emerging industries are expected to demonstrate their strength as engines of growth, with growth forecast to accelerate in the second half.
In the September issue of its magazine Finance & Development, the IMF pointed out that emerging industries in China, including new energy vehicles, robotics, new drugs and artificial intelligence, are demonstrating their strength as new engines of economic growth. China has a huge market on the demand side and a strong capacity for consumers to adopt new technologies, while on the supply side it has the advantages of industrial clusters and investment in research and development.
Marshall Mills, the IMF’s chief representative in China, said that the Chinese economy was supported by strong exports and policy support from the beginning of 2026, and expressed the view that the drivers of growth were sufficient. He forecast that growth would accelerate further in the second half.
Zhang Yun (張雲), head of the China division at US-based Rise Strategy Consulting, pointed out that changing consumer attitudes were creating opportunities for many new products. Zhang expressed the view that China had naturally generated enormous growth momentum by combining new products with the world’s largest consumer market.
Jonathan Crane, CEO of KraneShares in the United States, said that companies and industries with the potential to influence the global economy for many years to come were taking shape in China amid growth in technology and AI, clean energy, medical care and healthcare, advanced manufacturing and consumption.
