Sekisui Kasei Co., Ltd. has developed a low-density grade of FORMAC HR, a rigid acrylic foam, achieving an approximately 50% weight reduction compared with the conventional grade. It has been adopted as the foam core material for the front hood panel of the Gainer Tanax Z in the SUPER GT GT300 class.
Sekisui Kasei Co., Ltd. announced that it had developed a new low-density grade of FORMAC HR, a rigid acrylic foam. The new grade is approximately 50% lighter than the conventional grade, which has a density of 110 kg/m3. This is expected to expand the material's application as a foam core material for CFRP composite materials.
The new grade has been adopted as the foam core material for the CFRP front hood panel of the Gainer Tanax Z, a SUPER GT GT300-class race car. This is its first use in an actual vehicle.
The company has identified mobility as a growth area and is focusing on developing foam core materials for CFRP composite materials. The development is believed to have been driven by demand for materials that combine weight reduction with higher functionality.
The company is also expected to continue expanding its foam core material lineup and pursue broader applications in the mobility sector.
