Fujikyu Railway's Matterhorn service has undergone a full refurbishment and began operating on 19 September to commemorate the 35th anniversary of its sister-railway partnership with Switzerland's MGB mountain railway. The new design is based on ORION, and commemorative logos and onboard displays have also been introduced.
On 19 September, Fujikyu Railway fully refurbished and relaunched its Matterhorn service on the Fujikyu Line to celebrate the 35th anniversary of its longstanding sister-railway partnership. Its partner is Switzerland's Matterhorn Gotthard Railway (MGB), with which the partnership was established in 1991.
The Matterhorn service is now in its fourth generation. Its new design is based on MGB's latest rolling stock, ORION, while the existing white-and-red color scheme has been retained. The rolling stock features commemorative logos depicting the Matterhorn and Mount Fuji, symbols of both companies, and photographs of ORION traveling through Switzerland's four seasons will also be displayed onboard.
To coincide with the refurbishment debut, sales of a limited-quantity 35th-anniversary commemorative admission ticket set (thick paper tickets) have begun. The Matterhorn service is expected to continue operating primarily as a local train.
