Sanrio released its first-half results for the fiscal year ending March 2027, reporting revenue of ¥107.725 billion and operating profit of ¥42.882 billion, both record highs. According to the earnings presentation materials, revenue and contribution profit exceeded the year-earlier levels in all regions: Japan, Asia, the Americas and Europe. Due to differences in the fiscal year-ends of overseas consolidated subsidiaries, the reporting periods cover April-September 2026 for Japan and January-June 2026 for overseas operations.
European revenue surged 42.2% year on year. Revenue increased 22.1% in Asia and 13.7% in the Americas, with Europe showing particularly strong growth. Revenue from external customers rose significantly in South America. In North America, licensing initiatives originating in games progressed, along with broader character usage across regions.
Although the higher merchandise sales ratio and long-term investment reduced profit margins, revenue growth supported profit and resulted in a new record high for the reporting period. The operating profit margin declined from 44.7% to 39.8%, while the gross profit margin stood at 76.6%. Sanrio will continue expanding multiple characters and customer touchpoints, aiming to maximize revenue during the year-end shopping season.
The full-year forecast remains unchanged, with projected revenue of ¥229.8 billion and operating profit of ¥89.5 billion. First-half progress was in line with the initial assumptions, and the company plans to strengthen character marketing initiatives in the second half and further diversify its regional presence.
