Kikkoman has brought its third soy sauce plant in the US into full operation, disclosing its first-year production volume, investment amount and plans to expand its share of the US market. The company will continue adapting to local food culture.
Kikkoman brought its third soy sauce plant in the US into full operation and held a commemorative ceremony on the 18th. The company plans to begin shipping bottled products in October and outlined its strategy to expand local production.
The new plant was built in Jefferson, Wisconsin. First-year bottled production is expected to reach approximately 4,000 kiloliters, equivalent to about 13 million bottles. Total investment is expected to be approximately $5.6 billion over 10 years.
Kikkoman earns more than 50% of its US-market sales in North America and continues to promote soy sauce for everyday use and develop recipes. The company says it plans to introduce approximately 200 new recipes each year.
Its share of the US market currently stands at approximately 57%, and the company aims to expand the market through a strategy of integrating soy sauce into local food culture. The governor and other officials attended the ceremony, underscoring the importance of adapting to local needs.
Kikkoman’s expansion into the US dates back to 1973. Its first local plant was opened in Walworth, Wisconsin, followed by a second plant in Folsom, California, in 1998.
