The Nikkei 225 opened up ¥513.62 at ¥66,775.78. With investors watching the previous day's moves in US equities, the SOX Index and Nvidia's earnings, buying led by export stocks took precedence.
The Nikkei 225 opened on the 27th up ¥513.62 at ¥66,775.78, while US equities ended the previous day's session lower. Rising long-term US Treasury yields, oil price movements and inflation indicators influenced market sentiment, with personal consumption expenditures (PCE) data providing support. Semiconductor-related stocks supported the broader market, while after-hours trading following Nvidia's earnings announcement in particular provided reassurance.
The yen's move toward depreciation against the US dollar also supported earnings prospects for Japanese exporters. By sector, mining, glass and ceramics, oil and coal products, machinery, and electric appliances ranked among the top gainers. Services, marine and land transportation, and real estate were among the leading decliners. Weekly data released before the opening showed overseas investors were net sellers of Japanese equities from 16–22, marking their first net selling in 2 weeks, with net sales of ¥764.1 billion.
Amid mixed trends among overseas investors and sectors, movements in major stocks and buying interest in the Tokyo market were evident at the open. Kioxia Holdings, SUMCO, Ibiden, KOKUSAI ELECTRIC, Resonac, Murata Manufacturing, SoftBank Group, Tokyo Electron and Kawasaki Heavy Industries were among the gainers, while Sumitomo Metal Mining, ASICS, Nintendo and Kao were lower.
