In the Tokyo stock market following the holiday, the Nikkei Stock Average fell for a third straight day. It closed at ¥62,188.63, down ¥893.23 from the previous day. The Nikkei Average remained near its low after AI and semiconductor-related stocks were sold on the impact of the US midterm elections, although it at times recovered from the day's low.
The TOPIX closed at 3,895.38, its lowest level since 12 June, while the JPX Prime 150 Index ended at 1,632.31. Trading value on the TSE Prime Market was approximately ¥10.8055 trillion, and trading volume was 3.51279 billion shares.
Kyocera, Fujikura and Kioxia declined, while Fast Retailing and Mitsubishi Corporation turned higher. Market views were increasingly that the US midterm election results and uncertainty over US policy had affected short-term market conditions.
