Mitsubishi Motors plans to begin selling the new ASX VR-e EV in the Oceania market during 2026. The small SUV will be supplied under an OEM arrangement by Foxtron, a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Hon Hai, marking the first such supply to a Japanese company.
Mitsubishi Motors has announced plans to launch the new ASX VR-e electric vehicle in the Oceania market, including Australia and New Zealand. The vehicle will be supplied under an OEM arrangement by Foxtron. Sales are targeted to begin during 2026.
The ASX VR-e features an aerodynamic exterior, including an S-duct-shaped tunnel and active grille shutters. Its name continues the ASX line, which is familiar in Oceania, and combines it with “e” to signify electrification.
Mitsubishi Motors plans to strengthen its business by honing its SUV, HEV and PHEV technologies while leveraging alliances with companies such as Foxtron in the EV field. The OEM supply arrangement was put together under Foxtron’s head of EV strategy, Seki Jun (関潤), against the backdrop of Foxtron’s relationship with Nissan.
The initiative could become a symbol of EV collaboration between the two companies, and Foxtron has also indicated its intention to strengthen cooperation with Japanese automakers.
