Kajima and Taisei Corporation will be subject to a 120-day suspension of their private-sector civil engineering operations by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The measure follows the finalisation of guilty verdicts in the bid-rigging case involving construction work for the Chuo Shinkansen maglev line.
Kajima and Taisei Corporation announced that they had received 120-day suspensions of their construction operations from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism under the Construction Business Act. The measure follows the finalisation of guilty verdicts in the bid-rigging case involving construction work for the Chuo Shinkansen maglev line. The suspension period runs from 7 November to 6 March of the following year.
During the suspension period, the companies will be unable to participate in bids for private-sector civil engineering projects ordered by private railway companies, electric power companies and others, or receive orders through negotiated contracts.
In the same bid-rigging case, Obayashi Corporation and Shimizu Corporation, which also received guilty verdicts, were subject to suspensions of their private-sector civil engineering operations by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism from 2 February to 1 June 2019.
This matter is positioned as part of the series of measures related to the Linear Shinkansen bid-rigging case, and both companies have commented that they will work to ensure thorough compliance.
