Early access to the next-generation, generative AI-powered personal assistant Alexa+ has begun in Japan. It provides more advanced conversational support than before, including smart-home control and everyday schedule management.
Amazon began early access to generative AI-powered Alexa+ in Japan on 29 October 2026. Alexa+ features enhanced natural conversation capabilities and supports smart-home control and everyday management. It is designed with a greater understanding of Japanese culture and customs for the Japanese market.
Alexa+ has a memory function and can respond while remembering information such as anniversaries and favorite restaurants. Users can also upload documents and other materials through the Alexa app on a smartphone. The service is expected to offer features for summarizing and adding calendar appointments, as well as sending emails by voice.
The features introduced include personalized announcements, room-specific announcements, the ability to continue conversations with Alexa+ while away from home, entertainment integrations such as music playback and recommendations for movies and podcasts, and product search, purchasing assistance and sale notifications. Other anticipated everyday uses include recipe suggestions, information management, restaurant reservations and gift recommendations.
Early access is being offered free of charge, while the service is expected to become a ¥3,000-per-month subscription after the official launch. Amazon Prime members may be able to use Alexa+ at no additional charge. Supported devices include Echo, Fire TV and compatible televisions, while some devices will be excluded.
Additional features such as restaurant reservations, delivery integrations and ticket purchases are planned. Alexa+ is expected to become available through alexa.jp and supported devices.
