“AI defense” is attracting attention as a means of countering cyberattacks that exploit AI, and a large-scale exhibition has opened in Singapore. Huawei demonstrated the introduction of autonomous defense using AI agents, explaining that processing could be completed within seconds. Meanwhile, it has been pointed out that it would be difficult for Japanese companies to replace everything with AI.
Cyberattacks have occurred one after another around the world, and a study by an Israeli company found that they had increased 1.5-fold compared with the same month a year earlier. Against this backdrop, one of Asia's largest government-sponsored cybersecurity exhibitions opened in Singapore, where companies from Europe and the United States, China, India and elsewhere are showcasing the latest technologies.
At the exhibition, the practical application of AI-based autonomous defense was discussed under the theme of defense using AI, including demonstrations modeled on hacking procedures. China's Huawei explained an autonomous defense system using AI agents, saying that AI can process everything from detection through response without human intervention.
A representative of a Japanese company expressed the view that it would be difficult to replace all security functions with AI. Makiko Inoue (井上真紀子) of NTT TechnoCross spoke about the need to strengthen IT governance while incorporating AI. She indicated that effective measures for the AI era are required.
This development highlights the reality that Japanese companies are seeking an appropriate combination of human resources and governance amid the global trend toward using AI for defense.
