The market for AI-related stocks in the US turned volatile last week, with shipping and resource stocks making significant moves while some AI-related stocks declined. This week, attention will focus on developments in the AI market and the outlook for shipping and resource stocks.
Looking back at last week, crude oil prices rose in the US market amid concerns over a dual blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping stocks were among the top performers, with Kawasaki Kisen rising 12.4% and NYK Line 11.0%, making the strength of shipping stocks particularly notable.
Against the backdrop of higher crude oil prices, INPEX rose 4.6% and ENEOS Holdings 3.1%, while oil and mining-related stocks also advanced. Meanwhile, the environment surrounding AI stocks remained challenging, and AI-related stocks continued to trend lower.
At the same time, Appier Group, which operates AI-powered platforms for e-commerce and travel websites, rose 15.3%, while Giftee Group gained 17.3%, indicating a rebound in web-related stocks. Stocks that had previously been trading near their lows, including Bengo4.com, continued to turn higher.
Looking ahead, shipping stocks may continue to rise as long as the effects of the Strait of Hormuz blockade persist. Key points of focus will also include the rotation of stocks after the AI market runs its course and the extent to which the rebound in web-related stocks can continue.
