On 1 October 2026, Asratec launched the V-Sido Power Series High-Power Distribution Board Set for Robots. The product is sold through Switch Science, against a backdrop of the growing adoption of QDD motors and efforts to put AI-powered robots into practical use.
Asratec is a company that has controlled robots for many years using its V-Sido robot control system, and has now announced a power board set. Sales are conducted through the e-commerce site Switch Science. The initial lot sold out, and sales of the next lot are also planned. The aim is to make the expertise surrounding power supplies that supports the growing adoption of QDDs, or quasi-direct-drive motors, available to individuals.
QDD motors are presented as a design positioned between conventional servos with reduction gears and direct-drive motors, combining power with smooth movement by creating an approximately 10:1 reduction ratio through a planetary gear reducer. Against a background that includes examples such as MIT's Mini Cheetah, they are attracting attention as a core component for AI-powered quadruped robots and are considered well suited to the spread of semiconductor technologies that enable shorter control cycles and high-power control.
In addition, an environment is being established in which users can try myActuator QDDs through Switch Science, a domestic distributor, and the importance of accommodating firmware changes by the manufacturer and providing a support structure has also been highlighted. Asratec has tested 4 to 5 types of QDD and, after comprehensively evaluating operational stability and ease of procurement, has adopted myActuator products in large numbers.
Going forward, the aim is to lower the barrier to building robots that use QDDs. An environment is gradually being established in which the mechanical components are made by 3D printing or machining, while the power board is integrated using V-Sido Power. Although compact, the board can distribute and regulate high currents, supporting the implementation of robots that use multiple motors.
As a note on positioning, the article was provided as a PR article, with the main focus for readers being opportunities to obtain the product through Switch Science and examples of QDD applications.
