At the afternoon session open in the Tokyo market on the 24th, the Nikkei average was range-bound in the lower half of the ¥65,700 range. At the afternoon session open in the Tokyo stock market on the 24th, the Nikkei average remained heavy, trading in the lower half of the ¥65,700 range. Buying related to gains in U.S. technology stocks had run its course, while weakness in U.S. stock index futures, including Nasdaq100 futures, also discouraged buying.
Domestic long-term interest rates rose sharply, with the 3.055% rate reaching a 30-year high since August 1996. This weighed on the market, while a further decline in growth stock Recruit Holdings during the afternoon session also weighed on the Nikkei average.
In off-auction trading on the TSE after the morning close, basket trades worth approximately ¥16.6 billion were executed, involving domestic and overseas institutional investors buying and selling multiple stocks in bulk.
As of 12:45 p.m., trading value on the TSE Prime Market was approximately ¥5.3213 trillion, while trading volume was approximately 1.30538 billion shares.
Advantest, Ibiden and Tokyo Electron continued to rise, while ITOCHU fell.
