Fujifilm Holdings Corporation has announced plans to build a semiconductor materials plant in India. The company will establish local production near Tata Electronics' front-end plant and promote localization.
Fujifilm Holdings Corporation and Tata Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding on 17 September to establish a semiconductor materials production and supply chain in India. They plan to build India's first semiconductor materials plant in the Dholera Special Investment Region in Gujarat, with approximately ¥8 billion rupees (approximately ¥13 billion) to be invested in phases.
The new plant will produce materials near the site where Tata Electronics is building its front-end plant, with the aim of shortening transport distances and delivery times. Fujifilm will provide technical support to local chemical manufacturers and promote localization by completing the process in India, from raw-material procurement through production.
Fujifilm supplies a range of materials covering processes from front-end to back-end manufacturing and aims to strengthen the supply chain by combining localization, local production for local consumption and support from nearby facilities. To support the launch of the front-end plant, the company is emphasizing the establishment of a materials production and supply structure within India.
