LG Electronics will establish a new air-cooled chiller plant for AI data centres in Virginia, US, while expanding production lines in Pyeongtaek and Changwon, South Korea. With total investment of KRW 150 billion, production is targeted to begin in the first half of next year.
LG Electronics has announced plans to build a chiller production plant in Windsor, Virginia, with a total floor area of 32,000 sq m and a site area of 170,000 sq m. The new plant will produce air-cooled chillers for AI data centres.
Alongside establishing this US base, the company will install and upgrade air-cooled chiller production lines in Pyeongtaek and Changwon, South Korea, and advance a phased expansion by the end of the year, operating multiple production lines simultaneously. It will adopt a flow-line system in which products move through a single line from the initial to the final process.
Total investment is expected to amount to KRW 150 billion. In addition to securing a local production base in the US to improve supply stability in the North American market, the company will expand its product range beyond chillers to include cooling water distribution units (CDUs) and cold plates. It will promote the expansion of its AI data centre business as a "chip-to-chiller" solution.
In the North American market, the company will prioritise supplying large-scale data centre operators, while in Asia it plans to develop the business in coordination with other group operations. It said it would continue working to ensure stable supplies in response to rapidly increasing market demand.
