Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha announced its next medium-term management plan covering fiscal years 2027 through 2031. To respond to rapid changes in the macro environment, the company is promoting the active use of AI and improvements in capital efficiency.
In addition to its existing container shipping business, the company will expand invested capital in its own-operated businesses, including dry bulk, energy resources, car carriers, short-sea and coastal shipping, and ports, while stepping up investment in the development of new energy supply chains involving hydrogen and ammonia.
Under its AI and Digital Strategy 2035, the company will deploy robots and AI on board to improve the accuracy and reproducibility of safety, quality and operations, with AI autonomously optimizing routes, speed, fuel and vessel allocation to achieve on-time, low-carbon and low-cost operations. As part of its capital policy, the company has set targets of raising company-wide ROE from 11% to 15% or higher and ROIC from 7% to 7.5% or higher.
