TIER IV and the Technical University of Munich announced at NVIDIA GTC Berlin a collaboration to accelerate the commercialisation of Level 4 autonomous driving by integrating NVIDIA Hyperion and Autoware. The companies aim to develop autonomous vehicles and advance their social implementation across Germany.
TIER IV and the Technical University of Munich announced that they would expand their collaboration to develop an autonomous driving system combining safety and high performance through the introduction of NVIDIA Hyperion and NVIDIA Halos. The initiative is intended to support the commercialisation of autonomous driving in Germany.
The two organisations will integrate the open-source autonomous driving software Autoware with NVIDIA's in-vehicle computing technology and apply it to autonomous vehicle development projects across Germany. The configuration of NVIDIA Hyperion also includes two NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor units.
Using the TUM Autoware Research Center by TIER IV, established by TIER IV and TUM, as a base, the organisations will provide an integrated environment linking research results to social implementation and pursue applications such as Level 4 public transport services and robotaxis.
Comments from those involved stressed the importance of shifting to an open, interoperable architecture and a transparent technology base, while expectations are growing for expanded opportunities for future field trials and validation.
