PPIH entered into a business transfer agreement to acquire Toys“R”Us Japan, a major toy retailer. Toys“R”Us Japan has posted losses for eight consecutive fiscal years through fiscal 2025 and filed for protection under the Civil Rehabilitation Act effective 1 October.
Japan’s toy market is still estimated to be worth more than ¥1 trillion, and purchases by adults who enjoy toys, known as “kidults,” are growing even as the birth rate declines. PPIH aims to expand its industry market share by combining Toys“R”Us’ expertise with its own business infrastructure.
