Essbase will become available as a fully managed service on Autonomous AI Lakehouse, enabling users to create and analyze Essbase models using AI Cube Builder and natural-language exploration. Write-back through the conventional Smart View and Excel integration will remain available.
An Oracle blog post announced the launch of Oracle Essbase as a fully managed service on Autonomous AI Lakehouse. Essbase runs on cloud platforms including OCI, AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, enabling its conventional analytics capabilities to be used together with a managed cloud infrastructure.
AI Cube Builder proposes dimensions, hierarchies and measures for Essbase cubes based on relational data. Users can review and revise the proposals on screen before creating a cube. They can also obtain answers through natural-language queries based on Essbase dimensions and calculation context.
In the fully managed cloud infrastructure, Essbase data and metadata are placed under database management, while the cloud provider supplies operational functions including availability, backup, recovery and security. Essbase is integrated with the data management capabilities of Autonomous Database Serverless.
Essbase models can use data from Oracle Database and lakehouses to organize data by sales and period and analyze results using the same calculations and hierarchies. External data such as Iceberg is also supported, allowing the same multidimensional analytics and business calculations used for data ingestion to be applied.
By using analytics and write-back together, authorized users can update plan values in the model and reflect monthly forecast revisions made using Excel’s Smart View.
