Japan Airlines and SKY Perfect JSAT entered into a basic agreement for a business alliance aimed at addressing regional issues and creating new businesses through the use of satellite data. The companies will also explore solutions to visualize environmental information, including measures to address the appearance of wild animals and birds.
Japan Airlines (JAL) and SKY Perfect JSAT issued a joint release announcing that they had entered into a basic agreement for a business alliance aimed at addressing regional issues and creating new businesses through the use of satellite data. The companies will jointly develop solutions that combine satellite data, analytical technology and the safety expertise cultivated through their aviation businesses to support assessments of regional conditions and the formulation of measures.
As one area under consideration, the companies are exploring a solution to visualize the risk of wildlife appearances, using vegetation data and other information obtained from satellite imagery to provide insight into local environmental conditions. Through this initiative, they aim to provide municipalities and relevant organizations with preventive safety measures.
Against a backdrop of growing expectations for responses to social issues such as population decline, labor shortages, natural disasters and aging infrastructure, the companies share the view that satellite data can contribute to understanding regional conditions and detecting anomalies through continuous observation over wide areas. Going forward, they will consider applications in a range of fields, including disaster preparedness and mitigation, forest management, environmental monitoring and infrastructure management.
