The Hang Seng Index edged down for a second consecutive session in the Hong Kong stock market on the morning of the 5th. Uncertainty over the situation in the Middle East prompted selling, while the strength of U.S. stocks and the Nikkei 225 at the end of the previous week supported buying on dips.
The Hang Seng Index ended trading slightly lower at 23,952.28 on the morning of the 5th in the Hong Kong stock market, down 20.01 points from the previous weekend.
Selling was driven by uncertainty over the outlook for the situation in the Middle East, which was seen as having strengthened investors' risk-averse stance.
However, with U.S. stocks and Japanese equities trading firmly at the end of the previous week, there was also a view that Hong Kong stocks would be prone to dip-buying at lower levels.
