Capital investment by all industries in the Kyushu region is projected at ¥886.3 billion for fiscal 2026, based on responses provided before the Kumamoto Earthquake, up 18.7% from the previous year's actual results, with investment appetite remaining firm, particularly in transportation and real estate.
The Kyushu Branch of the Development Bank of Japan surveyed capital investment plans for fiscal 2026 in the Kyushu region. Based on responses collected in June, before the Kumamoto Earthquake, investment by all industries was projected at ¥88... billion. The survey covered 842 companies with capital of ¥100 million or more, and compiled plans for the 7 prefectures of Kyushu regardless of the location of their headquarters.
By industry, manufacturing was projected to rise 0.6% to approximately ¥400 billion. Investment in ceramics and stone products was expected to increase by around 63%, while food-related investment was projected to rise approximately 32%. Non-manufacturing investment was expected to increase 39.5% to ¥486.3 billion. By contrast, nonferrous metals were projected to decline 33.0% amid changes in semiconductor demand.
Transportation investment was projected to rise 54.8%, driven by railcar replacements and airport facility investment, while real estate investment was expected to increase 60.9%, owing in part to renovations of large commercial facilities. The survey also indicated the possibility of further investment to strengthen supply chains as part of recovery and reconstruction efforts following the Kumamoto Earthquake.
Yamaguchi Prefecture's fiscal 2026 capital investment plan was reported at ¥210.1 billion, up 42.2% from the previous year's actual results.
