Shibaura Machine is launching the 5-axis simultaneous machining center VM-450A(5), which inherits the DNA of the UVM series. Targeting advanced machining markets, including medical and automotive optical components, the company is pursuing a combination of high precision and high productivity.
Shibaura Machine has begun selling the new 5-axis simultaneous machining center VM-450A(5), targeting advanced machining markets focused on medical and automotive optical components. The company aims to expand into these markets by leveraging the UVM series’ software assets, and has indicated a policy of improving cost performance and productivity.
The VM-450A(5) is designed for complete machining with simultaneous 5-axis control. Its 3 linear axes use linear motors, achieving a maximum feed rate of 50 m/min, while the rotary table enables high-precision operation with a minimum setting increment of 0.0001 degrees. This is intended to reduce setup changes from the blank workpiece through to the final shape.
The machine is equipped with a bearing spindle with a maximum speed of 40,000 min⁻¹, and uses HSK-E40 tool holders. It combines high-speed rotation and cutting rigidity for advanced machining, enabling continuous machining from roughing through finishing.
The company highlights the use of its in-house software, including FormEye, VectPath and ShapeEye, to enable operation with less reliance on operator skill and reduce labor requirements. The VM-450A(5) is scheduled to make its first public appearance as an actual machine at JIMTOF2026 (10/26-31, Tokyo Big Sight).
