The Bandai Namco Group handles more than 600 IPs annually and has outlined a policy of increasing its overseas ratio to expand Japanese IPs globally. President and CEO Asako (浅古) expressed a desire to work with fans to advance sustainability.
The Bandai Namco Group develops more than 600 IPs annually as products and services, and aims to build a stable earnings base less susceptible to individual hit products through a portfolio combining established and new IPs. This includes long-running established IPs such as Gundam and Dragon Ball, while the group uses both original IPs and licenses from other companies.
The group places a strong emphasis on overseas expansion and has set a target in its medium-term plan for fiscal years 2025 to 2027 of increasing the overseas sales ratio to 50%. The ratio is currently in the 40% range, despite solid domestic performance, and the group aims to expand in North America and mainland China as priority regions.
The Gundam series has grown to generate annual sales of more than ¥250 billion. Tamagotchi has also exceeded 103 million units in cumulative global shipments, with overseas markets accounting for more than 50%, underscoring the group’s efforts to strengthen the global development of its IP.
The group places importance on sharing Japanese culture with the world through its IP and regards its ability to leverage a broad range of businesses, including games, video content and toys, across the organization as a core strength.
