Taiko Pharmaceutical will launch a liquid-capsule version of its gastrointestinal medicine Seirogan. The new product, Seirogan Quick C, will go on sale on 3 April, with 16 capsules per pack priced at ¥1,000 excluding tax.
Seirogan Quick C, a liquid-capsule product, will be introduced as Seirogan's first new type in about 50 years. Its active ingredient is the same wood creosote used in existing products, making it a new formulation following the pill and sugar-coated tablet types.
The capsule contains a liquid, allowing the wood creosote to dissolve quickly and be absorbed in the stomach, where it is explained to be effective against sudden diarrhea and other abdominal problems. Each pack contains 16 capsules.
The product is indicated for symptoms including diarrhea, diarrhea caused by indigestion, and food poisoning. It is also expected to be usable as a first-line treatment for infectious diarrhea and other conditions without allowing pathogens to remain in the intestinal tract. The launch date is Monday, 3 April, and the price is ¥1,000 excluding tax.
Historically, it will be the first next-generation formulation in 51 years, following the pill product Chuyu Seirogan, launched in 1902, and the sugar-coated tablet Seirogan Sugar-Coated, launched in 1966.
