Crude oil prices fell sharply on expectations for negotiations toward an end to U.S.-Iran hostilities. In the New York market on the 5th, futures fell into the $87 range, while the Nikkei 225 briefly dropped by more than ¥1,400.
Amid views that negotiations toward an end to U.S.-Iran hostilities would make progress, futures prices in the New York crude oil market briefly fell to the $87 range per barrel. Speculation that the midterm election results would put pressure on the Trump administration also pushed prices lower.
Meanwhile, in Tokyo trading on the 5th, the Nikkei 225 briefly fell by more than ¥1,400. The morning session initially followed a sharp rise in U.S. equities after President Trump showed a willingness to cooperate with the Democratic Party, but selling over uncertainty surrounding AI investment spread in the afternoon, with selling spilling over into semiconductor-related stocks and sending the Nikkei 225 lower.
