Apple has announced its new AI agent, Siri AI, and plans to launch beta versions in multiple languages, including Japanese, from October. Use of server-side models will be subject to daily usage limits, and Apple is also considering expanding access on a paid basis in the future.
Apple announced details of Siri AI on 9 September, saying that the English beta will launch on 14 September, followed by beta versions in Japanese, French, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in October. Supported operating systems will be available after the new OS update, and supported devices will include iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Siri AI combines the latest on-device models with large models running on Private Cloud Compute. The service is reportedly expected to handle approximately 2.5 billion requests per day, and a demonstration showed how it will be able to reference personal information across multiple apps, including email and messages.
New features include retrieving information through the camera, creating shopping lists and expanding integrations with multiple apps. Siri AI will support apps such as WhatsApp, Outlook and Notability. More than 300,000 apps are expected to be supported, and a dedicated Siri app will also be available.
Japanese support will begin in October, while Siri AI will not be available in EU member states or China. Use of server-side models will be subject to daily usage limits, although the specific number of uses has not been announced. Apple has also indicated that it plans to expand the scope of access on a paid basis in the future.
