The Nikkei 225 extended its advance in the Tokyo stock market on the morning of the 25th. It stood at ¥66,318.14 at the morning close, up ¥804.15, or 1.23%, from the previous day.
Some AI- and semiconductor-related stocks surged, pushing the market higher against the backdrop of interest-rate trends in Japan and the United States. Tokyo Electron, Advantest and other stocks in the group led the market.
Financial stocks also stood out, with buying in stocks expected to benefit from improved net interest margins supporting the market.
With the 28th approaching as the last cum-rights trading day for interim dividends of companies with fiscal years ending in March, buying to secure dividend rights also helped push the market higher.
