Mountaineer Noguchi Ken (野口健) pointed to the uncertainty surrounding the cause and the devastating scale of the damage from a massive wildfire in a nature reserve in eastern Mongolia. He also commented on future efforts to establish responsibility and measures to address the situation.
A massive wildfire in the Numrug Nature Reserve in eastern Mongolia has reportedly burned approximately 80% of the area. Local media have also reported that some sources of the fire may be linked to vehicles associated with Japanese companies.
Mountaineer Noguchi Ken (野口健) expressed shock at the fire on X, saying he was at a loss for words, while pointing to the lack of clarity surrounding its cause. He also referred to the possibility that grass became entangled in a vehicle and ignited, emphasizing the irreversible nature of the damage.
Noguchi Ken (野口健) put determining the cause first and called for examination of various factors, including the nature of the Japanese company's responsibility, the circumstances surrounding the permits and the owner of the vehicle that caused the fire. Rather than focusing solely on corporate responsibility, he called for a response involving the Japanese side and biologists.
He also questioned the delay in reporting, indicating that there are far too many mysteries surrounding this catastrophe. Further reports are expected to draw attention to information on measures being taken locally, compensation and efforts to prevent a recurrence.
