Apple has announced new power adapters for Mac, changing the shape of the wall-side socket from AC Connector 1 to AC Connector 2. The new 70W/140W models are being sold in Japan, with changes to the compatibility of extension cables and international plugs drawing attention.
Apple has unveiled new power adapters for Mac, changing the duckhead design, which can be removed and replaced, from the previous socket to AC Connector 2. Published materials explain that extension-cable and country-specific plug compatibility differs between the old and new designs. The old adapter and old extension cable cannot be used with the new adapter, while the new extension cable is not compatible with the old adapter. This changes the equipment configuration required when taking the adapter abroad. In Japan, the new 70W/140W models have been introduced, and the devices that can be used vary depending on the shape of the included components.
The World Travel Adapter Kit compatible with the new adapters provides 5 types of plugs, and types A/C/D/G/I are said to be usable in some regions, including Japan. Meanwhile, the old extension cable and old kit are not compatible according to official support, so their use in each destination should be checked in advance. The 140W package name has changed from the previous “140W USB-C Power Adapter,” and the included cable is now sold separately.
