尾西食品's portable rice ball—salmon won the Trend Award at NIPPON ACCESS's New Product Grand Prix, Fall/Winter. The company is developing the product for use both as emergency food stockpiled for disasters and as a tasty everyday option.
尾西食品's “尾西のレンジ+(プラス)携帯おにぎり鮭” (portable microwave rice ball, salmon) received the Trend Award in the Fall/Winter category of the New Product Grand Prix selected by NIPPON ACCESS. The product is scheduled to launch on 1 October and will be offered at an open price.
At the presentation, President Ichikawa Shinsuke (市川伸介) highlighted the product's high functionality as emergency food, as well as its taste and convenience for everyday use. The pouch contains rapidly dried rice and is designed as disaster-preparedness food that can be eaten after 1 hour with water or 15 minutes with hot water.
Its distinctive feature is a new texture and format: heating it in the microwave for 1 minute turns it into a triangular rice ball inside the pouch. The company also emphasized that it can be eaten without soiling one's hands. It plans to continue developing the product for use not only during disasters, but also in everyday eating situations.
