Mitsubishi Pencil achieved substantial increases in net sales and other metrics in the second quarter of the fiscal year ending December 2026, with net sales reaching ¥47,757 million and operating profit ¥6,170 million. Strong performance in its overseas writing instruments business and the weaker yen contributed to the results, prompting upward revisions to its full-year outlook and dividend forecast.
Mitsubishi Pencil's net sales for the second quarter of the fiscal year ending December 2026 reached ¥47,757 million, up 10.4% year on year. Operating profit was ¥6,170 million, ordinary profit was ¥6,650 million and net profit attributable to owners of the parent was ¥4,259 million, all representing substantial increases year on year. Net sales reached a record high.
The increase in revenue was driven by solid performance in the writing instruments and non-writing instruments businesses in Japan and overseas, with growth in the overseas writing instruments business and the weaker yen having a significant impact. Sales of high-value-added products expanded in the United States, while Europe and Asia also remained steady. The overseas sales ratio rose to 59.1%.
On the cost side, a lower SG&A expense ratio boosted profit. Higher raw material prices and increased depreciation expenses put pressure on earnings, but this was offset by the absence of the provision for doubtful accounts in the United States that had been recorded in the previous year. The full-year earnings forecast was also revised upward to reflect revised exchange rate assumptions, while the dividend forecast was raised by ¥2 to ¥57 for the full year.
As part of its medium-term plan, the company partnered with Advantage Partners in May 2026 and plans to accelerate overseas growth, strengthen LAMY and optimize its supply chain. It also recognizes higher raw material costs and shipping delays resulting from heightened tensions in the Middle East as risks.
