Around the middle of the morning session on the 29th, the Nikkei Average was approximately ¥800 higher than the previous day in the Tokyo stock market, reaching the upper ¥64,700s. Buying of AI-related stocks continued following Advantest's upward revision to its full-year earnings forecast announced the previous day. There was also speculation that Advantest alone was lifting the Nikkei Average by approximately ¥600.
Across the TSE Prime Market, approximately 70% of stocks, including land transportation and machinery issues, declined. Meanwhile, caution remained among investors across the market, partly against a backdrop of higher crude oil prices. Reports that the United States had indicated the possibility of attacking Iran following the U.S. midterm elections the previous day may also have had an impact.
As of 10:00 a.m., estimated trading value on the TSE Prime Market was ¥2.5648 trillion and trading volume was approximately 609.27 million shares. Among individual stocks, Ibiden extended its gains, while Kioxia and Fujikura remained higher. KDDI and KONAMI Group, meanwhile, declined.
