In the Tokyo stock market on the 30th, the Nikkei rebounded for the first time in 3 trading days, closing at ¥66,753.72, up ¥1,272.45 from the previous day. September marked gains for 2 consecutive months, led by buying in semiconductor-related stocks.
Following gains in semiconductor-related stocks in the previous day’s US market, buying led the Nikkei from the morning, and the gain briefly exceeded ¥1,400 in the afternoon session. SoftBank Group rose more than 6%, while Taiyo Yuden and TDK rose on favorable reception of their announcement of joint development of next-generation electronic components. Murata Manufacturing, meanwhile, fell on concerns about intensifying competition.
The monthly change in September was a gain of ¥441 (0.66%), marking gains for 2 consecutive months. TOPIX posted its first monthly decline in 6 months, moving differently from the Nikkei.
Among individual stocks, Taiyo Yuden and TDK rose sharply, while Kyocera, Nitto Denko, Olympus and ZOZO also fell. The rise in SoftBank Group, which has a large impact on the index, lifted the market, and advancing issues on the Prime Market accounted for approximately 70% of the total.
The Nikkei Stock Average closed at 66,753.72, up ¥1,272.45 from the previous day. TOPIX stood at 4,108.65, up 67.52 points, while the TSE Prime Market Index stood at 2,118.86 and also rose. Toward the end of September, the market was also affected by expectations of US interest-rate hikes, but domestic and overseas fund flows remained firm.
