大日光・エンジニアリング has remanufactured used lithium-ion batteries from EVs, which JR East has adopted as backup power supplies for railway crossings. Cumulative production and shipments of the remanufactured products reached 1,000 units, and a ceremony was held at the Nemuro Plant in Nikko, Tochigi.
According to Nikkei, 大日光・エンジニアリング is promoting an initiative to remanufacture lithium-ion batteries used in EVs and use them as backup power supplies for railway crossings. Related companies フォーアールエナジー, which reuses storage batteries, and ベイサン, a storage battery manufacturer, are jointly involved.
A ceremony was held at the Nemuro Plant in Nikko, Tochigi, where it was announced that cumulative production and shipments of the remanufactured products had reached 1,000 units. JR East has been deploying these remanufactured products as backup power supplies for railway crossings since 2022, switching to them at a pace of approximately 200 units per year as equipment is renewed.
大日光・エンジ President Yamaguchi Takuya (山口 琢也) expressed his intention to expand reuse as an initiative related to the environment and disaster preparedness, separate from the company’s core electronic components manufacturing business. The company is also considering expanding into applications beyond railway crossings.
