三生医薬 President Yamada Kazunaga (山田和永) has outlined his post-appointment policies, including strengthening GMP compliance, expanding overseas markets centered on the United States, and improving productivity through internal reforms. Under management led by someone with frontline experience, shortening delivery times and promoting high-value-added products will be priorities.
Yamada Kazunaga (山田和永), who spent 24 years at US-headquartered 3M, was appointed president and representative director of 三生医薬 in April this year. The interview took place on the day of a visit to the Tokyo branch, where he discussed leadership drawing on his frontline experience.
Yamada explained his appointment as president by saying, “The reason for putting someone from manufacturing in the president’s position is to deepen understanding of the front line,” and emphasized the importance of GMP principles and hygiene management. He outlined a policy of aligning with US GMP standards, based on the need to comply with regulations in Japan and overseas.
For overseas expansion, he identified the United States and Southeast Asia as priority markets, indicating that the company would seek to stabilize its business through overseas expansion rather than wait for the domestic market to return to a growth phase.
He identified three strengths: the ability to understand customers’ challenges, the ability to develop and propose plans, and reliable quality. He set out a strategy of supporting products with high-value-added technology without being affected by fluctuations in order volumes.
To address the challenges between rising costs and product selling prices, Yamada expressed his intention to eliminate waste within the company, improve productivity, and shorten delivery times.
