A survey found that more than half of foodservice companies expect customer numbers to decline. With foodservice excluded from the government’s planned consumption tax cut, the foodservice industry is again calling for support such as meal vouchers.
The Japan Foodservice Association surveyed its member foodservice companies, and more than half of those that responded said they expect customer numbers to decline. Chairman Mukumoto Atsushi (椋本 充士) said he believes foodservice will be affected by around 10%.
The government plans to cut the consumption tax rate on food and beverages by 1% from next April, but foodservice is excluded from the measure. This could have a significant impact on the foodservice industry.
The Japan Foodservice Association again urged the government to provide support measures, including introducing meal vouchers that can be used at foodservice establishments.
