As FMH's Sankei Building draws attention over a real estate sale, activist investor Murakami Akira (村上 世彰) appears increasingly likely to launch a tender offer for the REIT Sankei Real Estate Inc.
Behind the ¥1 trillion-scale battle over the sale of Fuji Media Holdings' (FMH) subsidiary Sankei Building, reports indicate that Murakami Akira (村上 世彰) is moving to target a hostile tender offer for Sankei Real Estate Inc. (Sankei RE). Based on the 29.9% holding involving his eldest daughter, Nomura Aya (野村 絢), and others, the view has been raised that acquiring an additional approximately 15% would bring the holding to the level generally considered necessary for a successful tender offer.
Murakami Akira (村上 世彰) was convicted in the 2006 Nippon Broadcasting dispute, but subsequently returned to equity investment. The circumstances under which some of the real estate assets, including Sankei Building, were transferred to Sankei RE as a target within the FMH group are described, and the outcome of the tender offer is now a key focus. The inside story is presented as the subject of an in-depth Bunshun investigation.
