The Nikkei 225 opened at ¥70,582.11, down ¥101.87, marking its first decline in 3 days. Disco and other stocks were lower.
On the 7th, the Nikkei 225 opened at ¥70,582.11, down ¥101.87 from the previous day, beginning trading lower for the first time in 3 days. US equities had extended their gains the previous day, with the Dow Jones Average closing up $253.38 and the Nasdaq up 122.48 points.
Selling prevailed at the Tokyo market open, as uncertainty over the outlook for the situation in the Middle East and elevated US long-term interest rates made investors more cautious. There were moments when lower oil prices spread a sense of relief, but the market as a whole also showed periods of firmness.
Disco, Kioxia Holdings, TDK, Ibiden and KOKUSAI ranked among the top stocks by trading value on the TSE Prime Market, while Disco fell sharply. By sector, insurance, banking, securities and commodity futures, iron and steel, and warehousing and harbor transportation-related stocks were among the biggest decliners, while electricity and gas, nonferrous metals, construction, machinery and other products were among the top gainers.
Among individual stocks, several stocks posted substantial declines in addition to Disco, which led the Nikkei 225 lower. Furukawa Electric, NEC and Kawasaki Heavy Industries were among the gainers.
