The Nikkei Average started trading on the 15th at around ¥63,190, down approximately ¥302 from the previous day, with notable declines in Furukawa Electric and Fujikura, among others.
The Nikkei Average fell for a third straight session, standing at ¥63,190.37 at the open, down ¥302.62 from the previous day. The decline in U.S. markets, higher oil prices and concerns over rising interest rates weighed on the market.
By sector, oil and coal products, nonferrous metals, mining, electric appliances and machinery were among the top decliners by percentage, while services, pharmaceuticals and retail were among the sectors that rose. Among stocks with the highest trading value, Furukawa Electric, Tokyo Electron, Fujikura and SUMCO declined.
The Dow and Nasdaq fell in U.S. trading, while the SOX Index posted a sharp decline. High crude oil futures prices and elevated long-term interest rates made investors in the Tokyo market more cautious. Even so, some market participants believe buying demand is likely to emerge at lower levels.
Lasertec, SoftBank Group, Recruit Holdings, Takeda Pharmaceutical, NEC, Resonac and JT were among the stocks cited as gainers, while decliners included Furukawa Electric, Fujikura and many others.
