Through collaboration between Mitsui Fudosan and TEPCO Energy Partner, the Nihonbashi 1-Chome Energy Center has been completed and will begin supplying electricity and heat to the entire Tokyo Midtown Nihonbashi district from 1 October 2026.
According to the release, the Nihonbashi 1-Chome Energy Center was completed on 30 September 2026 and will begin supplying electricity and heat to the entire district from the following day. The recipients of the supply will be the buildings of the Nihonbashi 1-Chome Central District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project, with supply commencing on 1 October 2026.
The energy center uses a cogeneration system to achieve local energy production and consumption. Waste heat generated during power generation will be used for chilled water, hot water, and steam, while thermal storage tanks will also be used to improve energy efficiency throughout the district. This is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 25%.
The AI-powered energy management system “EMSTEP” has been introduced to forecast demand up to 30 hours ahead at 30-minute intervals and automatically optimize operating plans. To strengthen business continuity in the event of a disaster, the center also has multiple power supply lines, seismic resistance measures, and flood-proofing measures, enhancing supply reliability.
An energy infrastructure tour program is also planned for the future, as the project aims to decarbonize the entire district and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
