The focus of today's currency market is on the direction of the US dollar, Japanese yen and euro, expectations regarding Japanese and US monetary policy, and Fed Chair Warsh's (ウォーシュ) speech scheduled for tomorrow, 28 August. Attention is centred on the dollar's underlying trend, cross-yen movements and interest-rate developments.
The Jackson Hole meeting will begin this week on 27 August, with a speech by Fed Chair Warsh (ウォーシュ) scheduled for 28 August. The market will seek to assess US monetary policy and interest-rate developments while gauging movements in USD/JPY and the euro.
The schedule for the release of US economic indicators is also important. US initial jobless claims are due at 9:30 p.m., followed at 2:00 a.m. by a US seven-year Treasury note auction.
In Europe, attention remains on the release of the ECB Governing Council accounts from its 22–23 July meeting, as well as attempts to identify buying opportunities on dips in USD/JPY and cross-yen pairs. Movements in long-term US interest rates and the direction of the dollar, yen and euro are being highlighted as the central themes.
