Kitanagoya City and Sompo Japan signed an agreement to accelerate support for victims and help them rebuild their lives when flooding occurs due to typhoons, torrential rain or other causes. The agreement was prompted by the city’s efforts to strengthen disaster prevention and mitigation measures and ensure residents’ safety, while Sompo Japan will establish a framework for cooperation by drawing on its expertise in supporting disaster victims.
The agreement’s main provisions include providing the city with the results of assessments of damage suffered by residents from flooding, only where the city has obtained their consent; using the data provided for purposes including procedures for issuing disaster damage certificates and other forms of victim support; managing the information in compliance with the Personal Information Protection Act and other applicable laws; and working together to help victims rebuild their lives.
Going forward, Sompo Japan is expected to deepen its cooperation with Kitanagoya City and support efforts to strengthen disaster prevention, mitigation and disaster response capabilities, while promoting cooperation throughout the region through public awareness activities.
