September same-store sales were strong, at 103.5% for TRIAL and 107.0% for Seiyu. With 2 new stores opened during the month and no closures, the store counts were 383 for TRIAL and 244 for Seiyu.
According to the monthly results for September 2026, TRIAL Holdings' same-store sales were 103.5%, customer traffic was 100.8%, sales per customer were 102.8% and total-store sales were 109.8%. Seiyu's same-store sales were 107.0%, customer traffic was 106.9%, sales per customer were 100.2% and total-store sales were 105.4%. 2 new stores opened in September, bringing the total to 383 TRIAL stores and 244 Seiyu stores.
The month was affected by heavy rainfall and reduced sunshine hours, mainly on the Pacific side of eastern Japan, as well as falling temperatures. TRIAL's food and seasonal products performed steadily. Seiyu increased customer traffic in the Kanto region despite the severe weather, and same-store sales exceeded the previous year for the 12th consecutive month.
Fresh foods, including autumn vegetables and the private-label Takumi no Sake series, grew. Prepared foods benefited from products such as the roast pork cutlet rice bowl and the generously filled egg sandwich. Rice fell below the previous year's level, while daily sweet breads and frozen fruit performed well. In non-food products, rainwear and loungewear were strong. Seiyu drove sales through stronger performance in daily necessities, autumn vegetables, sushi and prepared foods.
1 store was reportedly closed because of the Kumamoto Earthquake in July, and attention is focused on the recovery status and future store-opening plans.
