Shimura Miki (志村 美希) discussed why she continues her work as a track-and-field influencer in an interview following Mizuno’s new product presentation in Tokyo, drawing on her influence on social media. She spoke about the origins of her activities and how the presence of her fans motivates her.
When she reached the final of the women’s 800m at the 2020 Japan Championships, she received a strong response on social media. Looking back, she said, “The reaction when nobody expected anything from me encouraged me.” She explained that support on social media motivated her while events continued to be held without spectators during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Five years after graduating, she continues to share updates and has expanded her influence through sustained efforts. Shimura said with confidence, “I have lived my life determined to achieve every goal I set.” She said her goal going forward is to make running more accessible.
She described the appeal of running as a time for meditation and said she values the time spent listening to her heartbeat and breathing without using a smartphone or earphones. She aims to continue sharing the enjoyment of running with more people and to establish a culture that young people and children who are not good at exercise can take part in easily.
