Kuradashi and Japan Post will launch the jointly developed frozen meal delivery service “post chef” on 8 October 2026. Orders will be accepted via tablets at post office counters, by telephone and through the post office online shop. Frozen delivery will be available nationwide, excluding some remote islands and mountainous areas.
The home-delivered meal market has been expanding year by year. According to an estimate by Yano Research Institute, the market reached ¥2.4096 trillion in fiscal 2024. As competition intensifies, Japan Post is pursuing a transformation into an integrated logistics and lifestyle-support company in response to declining mail volumes. Kuradashi, meanwhile, is diversifying its business around food-loss reduction, and the new service is positioned as a specific outcome of the two companies’ capital and business alliance.
“post chef” is a frozen meal delivery service designed to provide nutritional balance, with orders accepted through a combination of digital and analog channels. Orders can be placed via tablets at post office counters nationwide, a dedicated telephone line and the post office online shop, with the aim of reaching customers who are difficult to reach through e-commerce-led services alone. The products come in 2 formats, one-plate meals and side-dish pouches, and are intended to reduce the burden of planning everyday meals.
